The Atwater High marching band was invited to play during United States Secretary of Labor Keith Sonderling’s visit to Merced County on Monday. Band Director Paloma Rodriguez and the Atwater band played during Sonderling’s stop at West-Mark in Atwater.
Sonderling’s visit to West-Mark in Atwater provided an opportunity to see local manufacturing in action and highlight the importance of keeping manufacturing jobs and opportunities in our community, supporting American workers, and ensuring these jobs continue to provide opportunities for local families.
The Secretary is the President’s principal advisor on labor and workforce matters and leads the Department’s efforts to administer and enforce federal laws protecting workers’ wages, workplace safety and health, and retirement and health benefits.
MUHSD Superintendent was part of a group of local dignitaries who were on hand to welcome Sonderling on his visit as Sonderling made multiple stops during his visit to Merced County.
“Atwater High School's band was invited to welcome the Secretary and represent our students and community during this special visit,” said Jannette McAuley, MUHSD Director College & Career. “The invitation came from the Merced County Workforce Development Department. The band's participation is a great opportunity to showcase Atwater High School and MUHSD as part of a community-wide effort to connect education, local employers, American workers, and workforce development.”
