MUHSD Graduation Requirements

Graduation Requirements: Students must earn a minimum of 220 credits in the course areas listed below. Each semester of a single-period course is equivalent to 5 credits. A year-long, single-period course is awarded 10 credits. Courses that span two periods will receive 10 credits per semester. Students must complete 2 CTE classes (20 credits), one of which must be a capstone course (10 credits).

A-G Requirements: Students who plan to attend a California State University (CSU) or the Univerity of California (UC) immediately after graduation must meet the high school graduation requirements AND the A-G requirements outlined below with a grade of C or better in every course.

A. History/Social Studies

  • Graduation : 4 years (40 Credits)
  • A-G: 2 years (10 credits of World History & 10 credits of US History)

 

B. English

  • Graduation: 4 years (40 credits)
  • A-G: 4 years (40 credits)

 

C. Mathematics

  • Graduation: 2 years (20 credits). Must pass Integrated Math 1 or an Algebra-equivalent class.
  • A-G: 3 years (30 credits): 4 years (40 credits) recommended.

 

D. Science

  • Graduation: 3 years (30 credits). Must include 10 credits each of Life & Physical Science.
  • A-G: 2 years (20 credits). 3 years recommended. Must include both Life and Physical Science.

 

E. Languages Other Than English

  • Graduation: 1 year (10 credits) of Fine Art, Language other than English, or a CTE course.
  • A-G: 2 years (20 credits) of the same language of equivalent to the second level of high school instruction (LOTE 2 or greater).

 

F. Visual & Performing Arts

  • Graduation: 1 year (10 credits) of Fine Art, Languarge other than English, or a CTE course.
  • A-G: 1 year (10 credits).

 

G. Electives

  • Graduation: 6 courses (60 credits).
  • A-G: 1 year (10 credits). Any A-F course beyond the minimum above can also satisfy this requirement.

Physical Education (PE)

  • 2 years (20 credits) of Physical Education are required for graduation.

 

Career Technical Education (CTE)

  • 2 years (20 credits) of CTE are required for graduation. One course (10 credits) must be a captstone class.
