All-Star baseball, softball, football and flag football games on tap for MUHSD athletes.


The high school sports seasons may have come to an end, but MUHSD athletes will get one final time to shine with a number of all-star games coming up. There will be baseball, softball, football and flag football all-star games on tap in the next few weeks.
The first one out of the gate is the Merced County All-Star Baseball Game, which is scheduled for Saturday at Merced College at 7:15 p.m. The North team will be coached by Atwater coach Jarrod Pimentel and will feature eight Falcons in Logan Sanchez, Andres Reyna, Brandon Vargas, Evan Ingraham, Mathias Cole, Julian Madriz, Hudson Pimentel and Kayson Faulk. They will be joined on the team by Buhach Colony’s Jacob Medina and Livingston’s Andres Aguilar.
The South team will be coached by Le Grand coach Aaron Martinez and will feature eight El Capitan players who helped lead the Gauchos to a fifth consecutive Central California Conference championship. The eight El Capitan all-stars are Cooper Gaoiran, Zach Hunter, Aidan Witt, Benny Centeno, Matt McQuillen, Noah Ruiz, Brennan Casey and Angel Rivera. They will be joined on the South team by Golden Valley’s Gabriel Richards and Merced’s Bryce Jimenez and Connor Vitelli.
Softball
The Leonardo Family Memorial Scholarship Softball All-Star Game will be held at the Livingston Softball Complex on Tuesday, June 9th and will feature the top players from the CCC, Western Athletic Conference, Trans-Valley League and Southern League.
All-league players from each conference will play doubleheaders with the winners of the first two games squaring off in the second game. The first game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. with the second game scheduled to start 15 or 20 minutes after the completion of the first game. The CCC team will feature two-time MVP Madi Hiler from Atwater High.
There will also be scholarships handed out by the Leonardo family. A home run derby will start off the festivities prior to the first game.
Merced County Football/Flag Football All-Star Game
The Third Annual Merced County All-Star Classic will feature an all-star girls flag football game at 5:30 p.m. followed by an all-star football game at 7:30 p.m. The games will be played at Golden Valley High’s Veteran’s Stadium.
El Capitan High coach Xavier Ramirez and his coaching staff will lead the South team while Hilmar’s Frank Marques will coach the North. The girls flag football team will also feature the El Capitan coaching staff led by head coach Juan Valdovino versus the Hilmar coaching staff led by head coach Anthony Leal.
The South Football team features players from Merced, El Capitan and Golden Valley, including the Bears’ Vince Cortez, Hayden Czirban and Koy Wicker. El Capitan’s A.J. Jones and Lorenzo Peters will also suit up for the South. The North will feature players from Atwater, Buhach Colony and Livingston including Falcons tight end Vinny Valladao and Livingston’s Roberto Rivera and Julian Chavez.
The Gold flag football will feature four players from Merced’s Sac-Joaquin Section championship team including Antonia LeJarde and Averie Steverson. They will be joined by Atwater High’s Madi Hiler, Saige Harcksen and El Capitan’s Madi Dietz and Avnoor Bains.The Blue team will include Livingston’ Lizette Jimenez.
50th Lions All-Star Game
The Lions All-Star football game will also feature an all-star girls flag football game for the first time. The two games will be held at Tracy High School on Saturday, June 20th. Marques will also coach in the Lions game against Escalon’s Andrew Beam. Atwater Highs co-head coaches Nathan Ramirez and Capri Abbasi will coach the South team in the flag football game.
The flag football game is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. with the boys game to follow.
