Process


If you are interested in becoming a substitute teacher for Merced Union High School District (MUHSD) please contact Merced County Office of Education (MCOE) or visit their website. Once you have met the requirements for Merced County Office of Education, please call Natalie Lorenzana at 209-325-2003 to request an online packet.

MUHSD prospective substitute teachers will be cleared after 

1) Application has been submitted back to Human Resources

2) Proof of Identification has been provided to Human Resources 

3) Completion of required online trainings

Required MUHSD Online Trainings for Substitutes

Wait for your district email to be created. Please click here for directions to complete this requirement. You are to complete all the training sessions listed below at your own pace. If a training is not on your portal please follow these instructions. Use the menu bar on the left side of your portal to click “Available Courses” . Then search the course number provided below. Your last step is to select the “Enroll” button. Go back to “Your Course List” and the training should now be visible.

NEW substitutes will have to complete two additional training sessions 

(This is NOT required for returning substitutes. However the training will pop up in your training portal).

Bonus Structure for Substitute Teachers


Bonus pay structure is for the 2024-25 normal school year only, summer school not included. The use of a sick day will not count towards a consecutive day, the bonus cycle will reset.

It is the substitute’s responsibility to submit a Substitute Bonus Pay completion form upon reaching each 15 consecutive workday increment. 

Substitute Bonus Pay Completion

  • Substitute Teachers who teach 15 consecutive workdays within the district will receive a $150 one-time bonus.
  • Substitute Teachers who teach 30 consecutive workdays within the district will receive a $300 one-time bonus.
  • Substitute Teachers who teach 45 consecutive workdays within the district will receive a $450 one-time bonus.
  • After 45 consecutive workdays, the bonus cycle will reset.

When do substitute teachers get paid? - Substitute teachers are paid one month behind and are paid on the last working day of the month. For example, hours worked in August will be paid at the end of the month in September.
